hey everyone. I have a 1960 F-250 4X4 with a 292/4 speed. This is my problem. I am wondering if I have a bad t/o bearing. A couple of months ago, there was a rattling noise coming from my clutch, it would last about 30 seconds and then go away for a week or two and do it again. It wasn't a consistent sound, it seemed to change as if something was broken or worn. A couple times of pushing in the clutch, and it would go away again. Well, to make a long story longer, now it does it all the time, even when the clutch is depressed and now it makes a high pitch squeal. Is this the t/o bearing, pilot bushing or something more serious. All my gears are fine, and my clutch plate is fine.
Also what is the best procedure to replace one and or both??
Yep. Sounds like a throw out to me. You may be able to change only the throw out bearing now, before the pressure plate gets damaged. But if your that far into the situation, I always change throw out bearing, clutch disc, and pressure plate at the same time. I mean how many times do you want to split the engine and tranny apart?
