Poor Mileage after Reflash

The mechanic reflashed my computer last year in June and since then I've gotten about 13.5 overal (mostly city with some hwy, per the computer - hand calc is less). I did manage to get 19 highway (hand calc) on on the interstate back from Missouri last year but that was the only time I've seen that since they did the reflash - and I had it set on 70 for that tank with no stops. Before the reflash I could get about 400 miles on a tank was always around 16 mpg hwy/city avg.

I fought with the dealer for about 3 months on this and was told that's the latest program and they can't fix something that isn't broken. I'm still really ticked about this as it's costing me more money in fuel and when I pull my trailer it just sucks the diesl horribly. The truck itself runs strong and although on the oasis report it shows a lot has been done to it in the past it's been relatively good for me - minus the mileage since the reflash.

I'm not a mechanic or tecky so obviously I'm at an disadvantage. I really like this truck but not sure where to go from here to at leaste get the mpg I used to have.

Any suggestions?

When I take mine to the dealer for something. Since I'm happy with I leave a note taped over the radio that my truck will not be reflashed for any reason without my pemission. Many of the replaced items on these engines can align or work correctly without a reflash..A few restarts and the truck has the ability to correct itself. Good luck

Well, I have the buzzing when shutdown version of the computer program and I get 18.4 average for highway and city (hand calculated). From my point of view, your issue is not with the software. The one time my MPG dropped a lot was when my EGR valve was going bad. Have you check/cleaned yours lately?

When I had the latest flash done, "inductive heating" my mpg went down as well, before that I had the buzz flash and all was well. Im wondering if maybe they dont get uploaded correctly sometimes. I still think the original 03 flash was the best one.

Wow, mine just got reflashed at the first of the week, and I am rather impressed so far. They reflashed it because the FICM was replaced. I have not reloaded my SCT w/ Spartan tunes yet, an so far (1/2 tank now) I am getting the same mileage as I was with my tuner. This is the first time either of my newer fords has been flashed (02 1/2 ton, and this truck) and mileage went UP. I haven't worried about the flashes sine I have gotten my tuner because I would just change it anyway. Maybe I will get even better mileage now. I would like to say though that 19 on the highway is very good. My truck only gets 17 and that is babying it all the way (68mph w/cruise, never revving over 2000rpm).

The last flash they got me on was under "accelerator pedal" recall. But I found out later that the flash included a mandatory EPA change too. It really ate away at my power and ruined my tow/haul mode. Mileage also went down a small tick too. I complained but was told it can't be undone since the EPA mandated it. I was also told that without the flash I wouldn't be able to register my truck next time. I don't know if this flash is unique to commie kalifornia or if other states are affected. Next time I think I"ll do the tape over my port thing and not allow any more flashes without my permission. You might see if this is the same flash that they did to your truck.

I'm assuming you have an 03 or early 04 and they did the 06e17 recall flash...I had this done and was very upset. I then got the newest inductive heating flash and it really helped the truck in everyway along with cold starts. where are you at in california?

No it's an 07 and the last of the 07's too. Last build or something like that. They had already done the inductive heating flash even though I don't need it here in kalifornia. Although that did make the truck easier and quicker to start. I don't know the numbers of the flashes, don't really follow them that close. But I think I'll start! Oh and I'm in Orange County.

I'm calling Ford houses all over trying to get my reflashed back to the old programming. This new programming sucks.
