I Have an 2003 f-350 lariat...without heated seats. IN order to put in heated seats what do I have to do? buy new seats? or I seen heated seats pads and so on that may be able to go under the leather and just install an on-off switch somewhere else.....what do you guys think, IM redoing the leather on the front seats anyways, but really didn't want to have to but a new 800$ seat set up just for the heat..thanks
It's surprisingly easy and not very expensive. I did mine after reading about it from isubsmith. Here's a link to his instructions. They have a link to the company where we bought the pads. I'd recommend spending the extra $20 for the took kit that comes with the pliers and hog rings.
GREAT! i just read through that, doesn't seem hard at all! and the heated pads seem cheap! which pads did he go with? i don;t remember hearing that part..thanks for the tips, guess im gonna have to buy them and head over the Kris' house!
I went with the cheap ones. Looks like their $90 now. I paid $80 for mine a couple of months ago. These are the same ones in his picture. You can go with one of the other models which will be wider.
I actually found the install to be easier than it looks. I couldn't believe how quickly things came apart and went back together. Your only regret will be that you didn't do this sooner. Good Luck.
lol, thanks, does it only come with one pad? or one for the seat and one for the back, or do i have to buy 4 sets to do the two seats?
The $90 will get you a but and back warmer, wiring and switch for 1 bucket seat, so that's $180 to do both seats plus $20 for the pliers and hog rings.
The but warmer has a sensor built into it so it only comes on when you're sitting in the seat. This way if you wire it directly to the battery it won't leave you stranded if you forget to turn off the switch.
The switch doesn't look bad installed either. I put mine on the dash instead of the side of the seat.
yeah, hmm i was about to order me one too...that has the high and low right? i don't like the sensor part...when i go out and start my truck up in the morning i want to turn my seat on too, so its warm when i get in...
I'm sure you could defeat the sensor if you looked into how it was wired up. Some careful work with an exacto knife and you could probably remove the sensor and bypass it all together.
It is a 3 position switch. Up=high Middle =off Down=low It has a little light that changes color for the low or high setting.
It brings a smile to my face every morning. Then I wonder why I never thought of doing this before. If it weren't for FTE, I would have never found this information.
i wanted to do that, but couldn;t find anything so i thought i had to buy all new seats! youre the only one that responded so thanks to you i can do this alot cheaper and easier, thanks for all your help, sorry if i asked to many questions!
The great thing about this site is something someone asked a year ago helps someone a year later. Stroken, did you ever put those heated seats in if so how are they working out for you.
