I have a 99 SuperDuty V10 with about 120K. Lately I've noticed when running my heater in the top panel and floor panel mode together, at idle my A/C compressor is turning off and on alot. During one minute it turns off and on about 7 times and when it does turn on the A/C pump my idle jumps from 800 rpms to 1300. Is this normal? Was thinking maybe the IAC unit. If so where is this located so that I could check it. I kinda thought to myself it's turning off and on alot and seems kinda accessive. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I know the A/C compressor clutch is weak on the 1999's. The dealer wanted to just replace that when it went out around 150k, but I had them put in a whole compressor and clutch assembly.
From my experience, it is normal for the A/C compressor to turn on and off when running the "top panel"(defrost). Checked mine and it turns on and off pretty often also.
I am not sure about the idle speed though. My 99 V10 has 145K and never idles above 1000.......
The idle speed thing, I'd change the IAC and see if it makes a difference.
MY '96 t-bird (my sister has it now) recently had an issue where if you turned OFF the AC, it would stall! Turned out, the IAC was stuck.
I don't know why yours would jump to 1300RPMs when it turns on though, unless the compressor really had nothing to do (not enough refrigerant?)
What kind of job does it do cooling? Cold air? Somewhat cold?
Yes it blows cold air. Back in the summer 2007, on a 120F day here in Havasu it will blow fairly cold about maybe 80%. But that's alot of work for any a/c unit at those temperatures. I have a appointment to take it in and gone through next week. I'll post my results if the mechanics find anything.
