Hi everyone. I was just woundering what if any is the proper way to remove and clean the CDR valve? I dont know when if ever it has been changed or cleaned. The truck has atleast 210K miles on her.
Also, what does the CDR valve do?
cdr is like a PCV valve for a diesel.
some people wash them out with gas.
for the few bucks in cost, i replace it, then i know i will not have any problems with a blown diaphragm.
Yes, it is a dealer item (costs about $50). It is located just behind the intake (under the air cleaner). Clean it out ever second oil change, soak in gasoline for about 20 minutes, then pour some gas through the ports to clean out the grime. The good news is that you can test it. There is a little hole on the rear of the valve, wipe the valve off (you're about to kiss it) and blow. If you hear a click-like sound, your diaphragm is functioning.
This is from another post but here are some part numbers for you:

Both Ford and aftermarket parts people tried to convince me that the "CDR valve" does not exist or is unavailable. My friend at the Napa store became much more helpful when I brought the actual part in. He could not help me though.
The only way to get the part is to know the part numbers and what they could be calling it. These numbers, a/k/a s are:
IH Part #1805319C1, "Oil Pressure Relief Valve" (This part # was stamped on the old one and inked on my new one.
Ford Part #E3TZ-6A665-A "Adapter_crancase ventilation.
I obtained mine at a "Regional" International truck dealership using the IH part#.
I fussed around with the New one to see if I could discover its function. Apparently atmopheric air pressure causes the diaphragm to close the valve.
So I cleaned the old one somewhat and tested it by blowing through the little hole (which took considerable effort to find.!) It acted the same as the new one after that hole cleared.
The o ring that sealed the downspout to the riser tube was hard and fell apart so I stuck by my desision to change the valve.
The oil pressure is much lower since the change. (I still use the old resistance guage, which now registers "normal" instead of against the far right.
There is now oil on the dipstick... the first time has ever happened since I had the truck!!!!
Will I now lose My prized 18 - 20 mpg of diesel? I'll be back when I know.
Thanks for the help. I think i am just going to change it out since i dont know if it has ever even been done. My air cleaned bolt does have some oil on it.
