Ok Im putting a pre 79 460 in my 79250 351m/4spd. I have the 390 flywheel with only 1 set of pressure plate mounting holes. The only pressure plate Ive found so far to bolt up is a 3 finger {long} type right for a76 390. I know i can clearence the webs in the bell housing to clear the bigger clutch. What im concerend about is the added length will the clutch fork work right can I adjust it enough.
What would be really great is if anyone knows of a diaphram clutch to fit this flywheel. Since i already bought it and got it resurfaced. I know to use the different flywheel bolts also. I hope i can get a quick answer i want to do this over the weekend. It takes a day to get a clutch Ive already ordered 5 lol.
goto WWW.centerforce.com and call their tech number. Have this info on hand. Bolt spacing. 3 sets of 2, or 6 spaced equidistant? Measure the distance between the 2 bolts on the set of 3, measure between any 'ol bolt if you have the 6 equidistant. The cheapest place to get their brand is summitracing. Some local parts houses (shucks, checks, Kragen) will price match them.

Thanks for the info. I know which centerforce clutch i need but Im trying to avoid them. Im already way over budget on this project as always. So before i spend 350 for a clutch I would buy a higher stall convertor and a shifter to use the c6 i bought already. My problem is every 12 inch clutch i order comes as a finger type not diaphram from the parts store. Thanks Andy
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 29-May-02 AT 04:57 AM (EST)]hey there...well i can tell you what i did.. i had a 390 flywheel..and bought a 351m clutch and pressure plate kit..and took it to a near by machine shop and had them center it and drill and tap new holes...worked perfect..only problem i had was the pilot shaft went into the bushing i bought...so far that the splines were hitting and when i tightened the enging to transmissin i could not turn it over... after shaving some off the new Pilot bushing... and adding a extra motor tranny spacer.. worked perfect!! the 351 clutch kit will come with the diaphram type not the finger type...
Thanks for the info fastlane. Im going to pick up a clutch for a 400m tommorow morning which they assure me is the dia. type since its new not reman. Im just hoping it bolts to the flywheel or they can drill it reasonable or I have set myself 2 other options. I may use the c6 that came with the engine { it is a 4x4 trans. }. Or I sell this flywheel on ebay and get one with the multi holes. Im really starting to lean towards the auto as this clutch deal has me way behind.
yeah I finally got the right clutch today. Can anyone recomend a pilot bearing to use as the one that came with the 400 clutch seems to big for the 460 crank.
Thanks Andy
