Poor Fuel Mileage
I talked my dad into trading in his '00 ranger for an '04 F150 a couple of months ago. The truck is a 4x4, XLT, Extended Cab, Auto with the 5.4L motor and 3.55 gears. Dad loves the truck, but is very disappointed with his fuel mileage. He didn't expect anything great, and knew he wouldn't be getting the 19mpg he got with his ranger, but thought he would do better than 12-13 mpg (I thought he would too). I had an '01 F250 SD, Ext Cab, 4x4, Auto w/ 5.4L and 4.10 gears and was consistently getting 16mpg (just traded for an '05 6.0L CC). He doesn't drive fast, or accelerate quick, and the truck is all stock. Does it sound like there may be something wrong, or is this typical? The truck only has 22K miles on it. Thanks in advance.
Since it is a 04, there is a slight possibillity that on of the brake callipers is sticking, and causing a drag. If it would do this, he would more than likely feel some kind of vibration, but it's a start.
