Check your GPR (Glow Plug Relay) and if that is good, check your glow plugs.

These links should help. The relay is on top of the motor toward the front of the passange side valve cover. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/4...ke-thread.html

This might be a stupid ?...but here it goes. When changing the GPR is it neccessary to disconnect the batteries? Also if I unplug the plugs that are on the side of the valve covers, I can test the glow plugs that way(w/out pulling the valve covers)? I can change the GPR myself....but not really sure I want to tackle the GP's.
Thanks

Do the GPR first & see if you need to go any farther....

Make sure you get the correct one...

That would be a really good idea. One side of the glow plug relay runs right to the battery with a fusable link so if you slip with the wrench, it will take out the fusable link. Disconnect the negatives only from both batteries.

You can check the GPR by measuring the voltage across the relay right after you turn the key on. It should only be around .2V.

Also check to see if you have at least 11V going out of the relay. The side to the plugs is the one with 8 wires heading out.

Yes. The connector has 5 pins. The outside pins are for the glow plugs. Spec is for the resistance to be under 6 ohms to ground.

Also, measure the resistance back to the GPR from the mating connector to make sure that all the wires have continutiy back to the relay.

I haven't done a GP replacement and it sounds a little scary because if the tip breaks off you'll have to pull the head.

Have you looked into draining water from your fuel filter bowl, and changing the filter? Good Luck !

Well I took it to the shop and had them change the glow plugs, GPR, fuel pump and all fuel hoses. It was worth the money to have the shop do it because I probably would have just screwed it up!!
