Shenanigans??? Well, if you say so... I've been to the BJ auction and a few of the other big name ones. When you win the auction your proceed to the office and pay for it.... No shenanigans. All your paperwork has to be filed before you even get a bidders number. These folks don't run them like some repo auction in Hometown, USA. They have been scrutinized and investigated by every one who is anyone in the world of finance and all transactions are on the up an up..... When you sell a car at these auctions, you receive your check the next day..... Don't know what auctions you are referring to with all the under the table deals, but it sure as heck isn't this one!!!!!!
I've been in the old car hobby since the 1950's and have owned over 300 cars...over 80 Ford products alone and over 60 Packards. I also worked part time for one of the most prestigious classic car dealers on the west coast in the 1970's. The company and the big cheese auction company they were allied with, pulled off all sorts of crappola.
I know the score, so I ain't no newbie. I've attended dozens of mega-auctions...what I call circuses. You may not think cars are shilled, but I know that many are. The same thing occurs at all the collector auctions today, whether it's Pueblo Pottery, Winchester & Colt firearms, objects d'art...you name it.
Caveat emptor = let the buyer beware.
A $325,000.00 1996 Bently only brought $86,000.00.
Ya gotta love it.

I chose to become a partsman, but that doesn't mean I'm a no nothing dunce.
I've been in the car hobby since 1956, my family were GM dealers for 80 years, so I grew up in the carbiz. I know how dealers operate.
I worked for a long time classic car dealer, who was tied to a major auction company...there I saw how these circuses work.
Shilling is a way of life with these ppl. hoping to trap the unwary.

Heck, all I have is a bachelors degree in mechanical engineering, disabled due to injuries suffered while in military service since 1970, and still ran my own shop building Hot Rods and race cars for better then 30 years....
Yup, you have all the answers....
PS---now what do I do with all these cars I have laying around????? Guess I'll just give up on the 5 currently under construction, too.... Geez, anybody want em?? No reason to finish any of them and put them up for sale and live on money from these ill gotten gains!!!!!!!!
Guess I'll just go sit in my rocker and complain about everything!!!!! I guess it's much better to sit around, pat myself on the back, count my money and recite memories then to be out there making them.....
Shame on me.....

I don't have all the answers and never will.
Ppl just love to catagorize others...putting them in a box with the rest, just because of their profession. They think because someone did a blue collar job, they are beer guzzling no nothings.
I'm also disabled...and personally I could care less about what other ppl think.
If I wasn't disabled, I could spend more time with my wife, a P.E., travelling the world, and wouldn't spend one second on any internet site.
There are far better things to do in life, besides spending my time playing with automobiles.

Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts

Well, that's just another one of your opinions, and your certainly entitled to it!!!!! I personally can't think of one single thing I would rather be doing then be out in the shop working on cars, or in my office at the drafting table planning the build of current and future projects!!!!!
To me, Hot Rodding, be it old trucks or one off creations is far more then a hobby, it's a way of life. I'm proud to say I've lived my life that way for the last 40+ years and if I had it all to do over I wouldn't change a thing!!!!
I'm as blue collar as they get, never had any desire to be anything else... As an engineer and a Hot Rodder, I have never seen any car or component on it that couldn't be improved, altered, changed, or otherwise modified to be something other then what some designer in some automotive studio thought I wanted.
I do appreciate your accomplishments, but we all have our own achievements that we may or may not choose to recite for others..... I choose to not play the silly game of "hey, look at me" but would rather have my work speak for itself. Nor would I pretend to have definitive solutions to every aspect of an automotive build, project, or problem. What I do have is an inquisitive nature that allows me to look at stock parts as nothing more then something that can be improved upon to offer better performance, safety, or longevity.
Anyway, we'd be far better off to just agree to disagree. My experience with the B/J auctions over the years (I was buying and selling there long before it became an annual event on the tube) has always been most pleasant and always top of the list on integrity. If your experience with this same company has left you with a different impression, so be it. Personally, I will keep it at as my favorite choice of events to participate in!!!!!
