Yesterday I got my new 08 Harley F-350, and I wanna get the SCT tuner for it. I noticed that with SCT you have to buy a EGT probe to get EGT readings, but the truck it self has I think 5 EGT probes stock. BullyDog's techs figured out how to just use the stock EGT probes for monitoring. The Bullydog PMT for the 6.4 just reads off the stock egt sensors and they are pretty accurate I hear. So why do you need one with the SCT tuner? Seems like money grabbing!!!
The livewire will read the stock EGT sensors and display it, however if you go with the extreme race tune they make you install another one.
Ohhh I see, do I really need to install it? Can you get the extreme tune SCT with out the probe or does it have to be installed in order for the tune to work?
SCT will only sell the extreme tune with the probe, however I don't think you have to install it in order to run the extreme tune. Due to the increased EGT's possible with the extreme tune they highly recommend the additional probe pre-turbo, which is why they don't sell it without the probe.
No, to run the Extreme program, you do not have to install the EGT Probe. I am pretty sold on the SCT as far as (OUT OF THE BOX) products on the 6.4Ls. I put the standard Flashpaq on mine and it was just weak compared to the SCT....
The extreme SCT comes with the EGT probe. It also displays the temp probes in the exhaust but all of the temp sensors there are working with the DPF. I've read all three while driving and couldn't get a temp reading over 350*. It's recommended to have one connected to the manifold to get accurate EGT readings.
Sweet thanx for the info guys. SCT extreme it is then, I guess I'll just have to put the probe in. I guess I spent $65,000 on the truck soooooo it's a good investment.
