a few weeks back we got a about a foot of snow and had to use 4wheel drive on my way to work and noticed a growling noise which seemed like was comming from the front end. when the hubs are unlocked it doesnt growl or even if i put it 4wheel drive with the hubs locked out. when i lock in the hubs and leave the t-case in 2wd it growls constantly (at speeds above 25mph and gets worse the faster i go). when i put the t-case in 4wd also with the hubs locked in, it only growls when there is no load on the drivetrain. so if i'm accelerating, it somewhat goes away. i tore the front end apart this week and all i found was a few dry u-joints in the axles, which i replaced. i pulled the carrier/ring grear and the pinion grear out, checked all the bearings and they all seemed fine. i got it all put back together today and now i have a vibration with the growling. which i think what happend is when i put the right side axle in the stub shaft out of the carrier, i dont think i have yokes lined up right. now im wondering if the growling is from the t-case. but i want some input before i go and tear it apart. thanks!
well i tore apart my t-case and found nothing obviously wrong.. all the bearings felt good and tight. i did notice that the slip yoke in the front drive line has a little bit of play but i doubt it could be the cause. i took the drive line out and drove it and i couldnt get it to growl. if nobody has any idea's then my last choice is to drive it untill something breaks..
