Started my truck on a cool morning this weekend. It was sitting there warming up for about a minute, and then about the time it would kick up to high idle it died. Tried to start it, wouldn't fire. After some looking I found the IDM fuse under the hood burnt out. Went to store and got a couple more. When the key was just turned to start the glow plugs the fuse would pop. Had truck towed to dealer on sunday. Tech looked at it this morning. Found a shorted out Injector Driver Module. My tech and service writer are good friends and know I have my programmer. They told me they had to send the programmer into Ford for warrany reasons. Before the tow-truck got called I reprogrammed the truck back to stock. I did not unhook the batteries however. I am curious if Ford is going to find anything on that module or not. Service writer is also thinking maybe the programmer caused the short in the module, I don't think so, but I am curious if any of the Spartan guys know about this for sure or not. Thanks
FICM's have been known on an unfrequent basis to just up and fail at random times; not a frequent problem but a known one.
The SCT does not program the FICM in any manner (I wish it did, but it doesn't). so far as far as any relation, it isn't possible.
Correct me if I read wrong, but they made you send the programmer into Ford? From a warranty standpoint, there is no way I would have allowed such if I was the owner of the truck, especially since you returned it back to stock before hand.

I myself recently just found out the hard way that this is true. I hope for your sake that it gets warrentied because a new FICM and labor is pricey. We both have '05s, I wonder if this is a coincedence?
I don't know if you have checked my tread, but i started having problems soon after my FICM was replaced.
The FICM Harness was a recall item on my '04. It was recalled because they were shorting out on a bolt. If it's recall due to mechanical failure I imgaine they would be hard pressed to proove it as a result of aftermarket programming.....
Sorry Matt, I typed that in wrong. They sent my module in for the warranty, NOT the programmer. I picked up my truck this morning, everything is fine. Not sure what they will find, but if the SCT will not touch the FICM then I should be in the clear. I will check your thread next Adam, I hope I don't have anymore problems. Thanks guys.
