I am looking to convert to a dually setup. My bed is trashed, I have a line on a nice flatbed. I use my truck to haul a car trailer and would like to go dually. Has anyone put together an extensive shopping list on the conversion. I would like to minimize down time and trial and error. i use it for my business to haul customers cars and can't afford to waste time. Any help would be greatly appreciated..
I converted a 79 F350 2wd to drw. The main difference for my application was the front rotors and hubs. I picked up a set at the salvage yard (cheap) and swapped out new rotors. Our vintage of trucks use in/out coin wheels, at least that's the name multiple salvage yards give them. You have to make sure that you match the proper wheel type to your hub. You'll have to check to make sure that drws won't rub your leaf springs since your frame is wider than an F350 (37.5" vs. 34"). Lastly, if you stay with a Dana 60, you'll have to make sure that your lug studs are long enough and of the proper diameter for the new wheels.
That things hideous....I'm serious. I don't want a look alike kit, what axles etc might swap..Can I search for a used unit from 80's F truck how would a swap like that go? I don't mind changing axles, front doesn't have to be 1 ton, I only want to stabilize and improve what I can already pull. We are only talking max of 8-9K lbs, I don't need to tow 12+...
A 3/4 ton truck such as your F250 ultilises a lot of 1 ton parts. Your rear spring should be adequate for a dually rear axle. I don't know how difficult it may be to find one in your area or to make one using your axle or another F350 or F250 custom axle. I do know I would want to drive a custom/personal built one.
