Fuel Filter Change Problem

Hi All, my first post, and of course it's a problem. Attempted to replace the fuel filter with a Motorcraft filter, but was unable to twist the old one away from the cover. It was installed by a Ford dealer, and the invoice shows the same part number as mine.
As this was my first try, did not want to foul up something as I need it driveable. Is there some secret to breaking it loose?

'01 F350, Lariat, CC, LWB, 2WD, AT, Dually. Tow 30' Fifth Wheel, only current mod is AIS filter, Muffler replacement, AT Cooler, and Guages next.

Go to your local auto parts store and ask them for a Ford fuel filter tool. Should be under $10. You need one to release the hose.

Which engine Gas or Diesel?

Sounds like its a Diesel based on the description of "filter + lid" - Your old filter is likely aftermarket not Ford - Some aftermarket fuel filters come with the lid attached. The stock Ford replacement does not include a lid. The aftermarket filters w/ the lid are not designed to have it removed for reuse on the fuel bowl.

You'll need to either get another filter w/ the lid attached or, a replacement lid.
