2007 Mountaineer issues after remote start install
Hey guys....
I recently had a problem starting my truck after having a remote start installed on a 2007 Mercury Mountaineer. After the truck sat for 21 hours the truck would not start, I had to get a jump to start the truck. I had the installer take a look at it and he said there is nothing wrong with anything that they did or the equipment. The installer told me that they had the same issue on a 2007 Explorer- the dealership thought it was the remote start. After some time it turns out that it was the Smart Junction Box in the truck.
My question is why would having a remote start installed cause the Smart Junction Box to drain the battery? I have never had a problem with this truck sitting for an extended period of time, but now it seems to be a prob. The remote start installed seems to think it is the SJB, but I’m not convinced.
<O Let me know your thoughts on this or experiences….
Who installled the remote start? If it was the dealer no problem, keep bugging them. If it was an outside shop, well, good luck the warranty is probably void now. I would have the starter taken out and hope the dealer continues to honor your warranty!
It was installed by the dealer in Virginia (Sheehy). They are looking at the truck now, it appears that it was caused by the remote starter. The remote started caused a low, but constant draw on, which in turn drained the battery. They are having the installer work with a tech at the dealership on Monday. They have stepped up to plate and assured me that it would all be taken care of.
I am glad to hear that you are getting it resolved. In the future, all add-on alarms/remote starter modules have a separate fuse. To help identify whether or not it is the cause of the power drain, simply remove the fuse and see if the drain is eliminated.
