What kinda rods ya getting? I wouldn't waste my time with stock ones. I actually think the factory PMRs are good for more than they get credit for if tuned properly. Like anything, I will never have the ultimate truck but by golly it's gonna be a quick one. If you want the ultimate truck, you better start thinking about another power plant.

Some day ill have hybrids and a hair dryer. Congrats man, Im sure i dont have to tell you to enjoy them, although Id be interested in a mileage comparison, if you can ever keep your foot out of it. I know a couple of expenses that would go up for me with them. 1)fuel 2)tires 3)carnage (u joints? etc) 4)red and blues in the rear view. haha

Nope, they're forged. I know...I take 'em apart.

However, the 6.0L PSDs DO have PMRs and they wil make BIG HP with them. Why? They are DESIGNED to be made of powdered metal. The 7.3L PMRs have the same dimensions as the forged rods, therefore they are weaker in certain areas.

How do you take a connecting rod apart?
Take a couple more apart and get back to me...

Mike,
FWIW, cryo'ed PMRs will hold up as well as forged stockers. But in the event that you go that far into the motor I'd question why messing with the PMRs, slap some black birds in it (if you can find some) and never look back.
Until... headgaskets and/or studs been considered?
I think your combination choice will run cool enough to not worry so much about the rods but rather the headgaskets. Any thoughts. I'd at the very least throw in some studs.

We'll agree to disagree.
Directly from General Motors Service Information of which I USE EVERY DAY:

01-07 Duramax LB7, LLY, LBZ, LMM
"The connecting rods are one-piece hot forged steel. The connecting rods and caps are of a fractured split design to improve durability and reduce internal friction. The connecting rod small end is tapered cut for reduced weight and improved durability."

Sorry to hijack the thread, Mike.

I want to do this to my truck too. I'm going to research the thread some more and then check out the vendor on the injectors. I already have a turbo for it!!

Glad to hear of the UPGRADE!!!

Thanks for the kind words folks. I will be doing some real testing of the combo later this week. 12 hour days driving around takes all the fun out of it, and I want to run it in the day to look for smoke and watch gauges etc. Later this week it will be.

Jet, I would love to put some studs in. Got a spare set laying around? I have shot the PMS load for a bit here. Gonna have to take it easy on it, sorta.

Well, I put a total of about 10 miles of driving on it last night and maybe 20 minutes of idling. I will be sucking the HPOP dry and draining the oil again. Yeah, over 3 gallons of brand new Rotella just to get the diesel contamination out.

I will be testing it for romps on cold start wed morning with the dyno before I drain it and put the synthetic in. Then the game is on.

Agreed, Mike you'll really be able to roll the coal.

Hey Cody, What's the difference between 'one-piece hot forged steel' and powdered metal? And, I've never seen a two-piece rod, not intentionally.

Mike, Mike, Mike...
I'm still thinking about what you've done.
