Dad's 94 E4WD... two q's

Ok firstly, my dad uses his beastly aero for constructionwork almost daily. it's never let him down.

today when we were changing his oil he noticed that the passenger side front axle had a torn boot. the boot that's torn is the one that's between the disk and the flexable axle part. It must've recently happened, because it hasn't been making any noise or causing any problems yet.

ANYwho is this part still replaceable, and if so, how do i do it? my haynes manual is for 2wd...

also, when we draine his oil, it looked a tad orangey, and he was showing me his drain plug and it had some weird orangy whiteish goop on it, but the antifreeze is still green. so we're going to keep an eye on that.

in other news, i was comparing my rad. to his, and i was like, dude, your rad is like twice as big as mine. he was like, yeah, the one i put in my car is a three core rad. from an rv... lol

have i mentioned lately how absolutly AMAZING these aero's are?

Yes the CV's are still availible at most auto parts stores. You can also just buy a replacement boot, but that will not guarentee that the CV is not damaged. A new CV runs around $150 a side (I just replaced mine back in October.)

I believe someone around here did a pic explination on how to remove it. It is not too tuff, just be carefull and take your time in a clean area.

EDIT: Orange stuff is a new one on me? Did he happen to accidently drop some Orange Goop in the oil filler?

nah, he says he checked his oil in the rain, so it might've been some rain water draining out.

DCRB-Oil? I think maybe he has the early signs of water in the oil.

Constant velocity Joints? Mine was torn on the Drivers side. Guess what? I took a "J" shaped sewing needle (size of a quarter)from Wal-Mart (cost $ 2.20). I took 20 pound fishing string (monofilament) . I sticthed the torn two sides together. The pattern of sewing (zig zag) like a Charlie Brown shirt. Now this looked pretty good, but for the finishing touch I used a small acid brush and dipped it into some vulcanizing rubber. It melted the boot together. As a final touch I then topped that with black rubber gasket maker from the type you can purchase from a tooth paste tube.

I forgot to mention-----I packed the boot before the fix with a ton of new lub. Why not do this. I'd rather do it than tear the assembly apart thus possibly creating a new problem.---Boz

yeah i think what we'll do is just buy a new boot and clean and repack the existing bearings, i told him a new axle would be a buck fifty (150.00 in teenager terms) and he was like WHAT???

I'm not worried about his oil, neither is he. that thing's a beast, and i believe it's been discussed on here before about the heads, and he did over heat it once before, not murderously but any over heating is bad. so eh, we're just going to keep an eye on it. he's slowly waiting to retire this are (so i can have fun fully rebuiding it!! :-)) untill he can find himself a nice red awd xlt thats' 94 or newer w a tow hitch and 150k miles or so. in the mean time he just baby's his areo (doesn't drive it like he stole it) and keeps an eye on every thing. I guess you could say you wont find/make problems if you don't go looking for them, eh?

I posted a while ago a snap on boot for a Chevy truck at Autozone that fits the Aerostar if you just wanted to snap a boot on. I sealed the seams on mine with red RTV after I greased the joint.
