So not to long ago i started hearing what seem to sound like a clunking noise everytime i took off from a dead stop . And mainly when i turned right or left from that dead stop ... now im not exactly sure were its coming from but to me it sounds like its coming from the front driver side... i did do a quick inspection but nothing seems to be broken and since ive seemed to find every answer to all my questions here im sure ill get the same with this one....Thanks again in advance
On my 2WD I had to have my carrier bearing shimmed after I lifted the truck 4". Not sure if that's an issue on the 4WD. It would clunk as you described and it got worse when turning as the drive line shifted a bit.
thanks guys for the info ... as of right now im not home so ill have to check back when i get back from work... as i had inspected i did not see anything that didnt look right but i will double check and see what i get back ... thanks again for ur feed back ...
If it happens when accelerating from a dead stop, it's prob the slip yoke on the drive shaft. Ford under lubed them and then they dried out usually well before they hit the dealer. Mine did it on the test drive, but I knew what it was and had them handle it before I took delivery. Since then, every 20K mi. I take it apart, clean it, and put it back together. Takes me 10 min. tops.
One thing worth noting...use a heavy duty teflon grease and it will hold up a lot longer than EP or Moly grease will.
