64 questions

Hi, I am new to this forum. I have a 64 ford f100. I am looking to put a different steering column in it . What is my best option on a different column with tilt wheel. I am a pretty good fabricator so that isn't a problem. I am thinking maybe a 80's style f-150 column. The only thing that concerns me is having the smaller steering wheel with no power steering. I have read that it could be a real pain to steer with the smaller wheel. If I wanted to convert to power steering i have read the a mid 80's toyota power steering box will work. Is this true and what all would i need to convert it to power steering. Also i want to lower the truck to make it handle a little better. I am thinking reverse eyes all the way around will give me about 2 inches lower. Would this be worth it? Also do any newer seats fit in the truck? Thanks chris

Howdy, fasttang, new user here, too.I just put in a seat out of a 95 e-cab and had to make weld in brackets I fabbed out of 1 1/4 tube square. It would have turned out a tad cleaner if I had used 1 3/4 for the bracket that goes down the side.BTW,this SERIOUSLY changed the center of gravity in the seat of yer pants.I drove my 66 the next day about a hunnert miles and did not have a good time. The seat is alot more comfy, and the noise level in the cab dropped dramatically now that there is something in there to absorb some sound. If you would like I could snap some pics off for you,but you can probably figger'em out.

FYI

A 95 ford F series seat will bolt to the stock 66 seat tracks. take the 80 to 96 tracks off and bolt on the earlier seat tracks.

I have a 88 Tilt/Cruize collum installed in my 64. It is a bear to turn at a stop and coffee in hand is a definite no no.... I placed this collum on a modified stock box as i eventually planned to put a toyota 4x4 box in place of the stock box. I was on a 15 day build with the truck from frame rails to running and didn't have a Toy box on hand.

I used a C1AE FE rod as a upper collum attachment and made a cup retainer to keep the seal in place on the steering box. I used no lower retainer at the floor.

guess that woulda worked, had I known,I would have bought the s/cab.The ext cab I came across had the 3 piece 402040,oh well, live and learn.I guess the tray style mount in my 94 lightning woulda worked that way, but,I'm going for the stock look in it and don't want to alter the interior. Thanks a barrel full for the info,I'll file that away with the other bits and pieces.
