Towing a large trailer yesterday my auto tranny started sounding pretty rough at idle and shifting really hard (I had to tow for a couple of hours) and the overdrive OFF light was flashing. Fluid level seems okay - tough to read the dip stick - looks overfilled really. So anyway, I want to put a larger tranny fluid cooler with fan - looked at a DB brand from the links and also want a larger fluid pan. Anyone know where and what brand pan to use? And what is the absolute best ATF to run in this - its a 94 IDI with an upgraded Banks turbo and tranny / turbo control module.
Also, what chip is best? And does it install in the ECM or is it a plug and flash type system. I really want to try to get my MPG's up a bit from the 10 or so I am getting on the hwy.
Any other suggestions?
I don't know what part of the country you are in but the Guru of the E40D is in Rancho Cordova (Sacramento CA). ATO Transmissions, Jim. Great guy and can answer questions. I work for a fire dept and we send our Ambulances to him. Once fixed they never go back in for repair. 916-636-3283
i,m not big on oversized pans they are for looks only in my book, and a larger target for road debris , the best fluid to use is mercon V , a larger cooler is always the best investment
Thanks for the info - found a highly recommended tranny shop in the area and hope to take truck over tomorrow.
What its doing is: while idling it makes a loud rattling sound but when you put some pedel to it it quiets right down, but the shift from 1 - 2 is HARD and the OD light is flashing. Could that be clutch plates that have come loose somehow?
