just installed a autometer Sportcomp Transmission temp gauge is my 2001 superduty 5.4. I believe it is a 4r100 transmission. I took it for the first ride after installing it. the gauge when up to 230 then to 250. I had this truck for 2 years without a gauge & no problems, I just got a 30'travel trailer so I wanted to add the gauge so I did not burn the transmission up. I put the sending unit in the test port on the side of the transmission. I believe there is NO WAY it should ran at 250??? Bad sending unit??? What do you guys think???
I would say it sounds like the sending unit is bad my trans gauge at 35 out side temp takes several miles to even move off the 100 mark my gauge is 100 to 350. I would assume the trans is shifting fine and that there does not seem to be any problem with it.
Yeah I would definity get a new sending unit to replace that one. Or take that one out and see if it has something on it causing the problem I doubt there is but it would be worth looking at.
Contact Autometer. It has been my experience that their customer service goes way above and beyond. I had a fuel pressure gauge that failed within an hour of install. I failed to act on it for 5+ YEARS. I contacted Autometer explained the situation, they told me to send it in (I paid shipping, wasn't much) and within two weeks they mailed me a brand new complete fuel pressure gauge. They never called, complained or asked questions after the initial contact, just tested the gauge and sent me a brand new one after they saw it was bad. A friend of mine recently contacted them about getting an extension for a mechanical Engine temp gauge. The simply said send us the old one (that is now 10 years old) and we will send you a brand new one with the longer thermocouple. I find it hard to believe that you will be anything less than satisfied with their service.
