HI I got a 90 F150 and just recently my oil pressure has gone up a little. It's always been dead center and now it's up a little higher. Is this something I should worry about or maybe what could be causing it. Any advice would be helpful..
I know with my old engine in my F350 the longer i drove it, the higher it would get, like usually the longer you drive the lower it gets. Your guage might be acting up, or the pressure sender might be going as well. Did you do anything different lately?
The 90 trucks should be about the starting year for the oil pressure switch controlled gauge. As long as there is enough oil pressure to close the switch, the gauge will read the same place no matter what the pressure. Something in the circuit has changed resistance, causing the readout to show slightly higher, while in reality, the oil pressure itself is most likely the same as before.
I just got my truck back from my father, I lent it to him for a few years. He ran 15-40 oil in there, and I switched it to 5-30.
Anyways long story short, the oil pressure was around the o on the gauge, and when I was driving it back on a fairly long trip, it was up just about over the m!
Im not complaining though, its nice to see the oil pressure up
your oil pressure is not up
the factory gauge is a fancy idiot light
when the pressure hits 7 psi the switch closes
and the gauge goes to the same place every time
the only way the gauge changes is if the voltage or
resistance changes
Thanks for all the comments. The engine was just re-built 2 years ago. If the gauge is maybe lying to me, Is there a way to tell in the future is the pressure is going up where it shouldn't be. Just don't want to have anymore engine problems. Thanks again.
