Carbon flush and o2 sensor

I had a carbon cleaning in an attempt to help the pinging in my f250. With all that crap going through the exhast would it be good to change the o2 sensor. The MPGs seemed to drop a little after the flush and new plugs. Any suggestions,

Also, the mechanic said there is a possibility that the knock sensor may be going bad and not retarding timing to get rid of the ping. There are no codes, but can it still just go bad?

Yes I believe the knock sensor could not be operating to its full potential and still not set a DTC. It will cause a lack of power and will not retard the engine when needed. The knock sensor is piezoelectric and vibrates in proportion to the engine vibration. It produces a voltage that is sent to the pcm and when the vibration is more pronounced such as pinging the voltage is more pronounced and the pcm retards the timing. Of course this is not the only thing that can cause pinging and with a good can bus reader a techinician can actualy watch the output of the knock sensor to see if it is in range or not. But vacume leaks can cause pinging stuck egr valve or plugs. If I come across anymore info I will let you know.

Just a quick update I believe your 2001 only has one knock sensor in 05 and 06 they went to two.

Just another update for you I was reading in my 04 service manual and they also mention the MAF sensor has some effect on engine timing and could causing some pinging.
