Well thanks for the link! I am seriously considering getting a set. Can't beat the price. I've been looking for some cheap no-name generic tires but not having much luck. My truck will ba a weekend warrior only and though it won't really be off-road much it also will have very low miles put on the tires. I don't like the thought of riding around on tires that cost me more than the whole truck. Anyone else tried them? If not and I end up getting a set in the near future I will have to report my findings!
I am aware they are recaps. My point was I wanted a cheap tire. I undertand you get what you pay for but why pay for something i don't need? The tires on my truck aren't going to see any significant amount of mileage and I would fully expect them to dryrot off the rims long before any amount of serious tread wear is noticed. I understand they are not for most applications and some people don't like the thought of them but as was stated in other threads they are used everyday in the airline industry and on commercial vehicles. Would I run them on a daily driver - probably not. On a beater? You bet! To each his own.
On a beater, sure why not.But you also see them on the roads all the time, they are called gators, because when you see them from far away, they look like a gator in the road,I used to drive cross country for a couple years, hated every minute of it,during that time I never used caps.In the same token, technology has changed alot too, they do bond them alot better than they used to.If you get them, post some good pics of them, and let us know how they are.
On a farm truck, off road rig, beater, they would be on in a second. For something that I'd use on the road, now way. I'm pretty sure they are illegal here anyway. You might want to look into your state laws.
As long as I was driving a full sized vehicle (not a B2 or Explorer), yes, I would use them on a daily driver. Especially green diamonds in the winter where you need the traction and are not exposing the tire to summer heat. There are a few people that have green diamond retreads on FTE and love them.
Of course, if you are going to drive 80+ mph on a retread in a light truck, switching lanes at high speed, well, I wold consider that playing Russian Roulette on any tire.
There is nothing wrong with retread tries, especially from this company.
The main reason for "gators" is because people do not check their tires air pressure when refueling (unless they drive for a major company such as Ryder). So, they end up driving on a recap (which may have been recapped 4x already) with low air pressure.
Considering how many trucks with retreads (16 each truck) drive 100,000-250,000 miles a year, I am surprised there are not more gators on the road.
Note that they are sometimes out of some sizes in the long term, I was never able to buy a 16.5 tire from them because they were always out of stock.

Yeah I noticed that as well. The first time I looked at the site I don't think they had the size I wanted unless I just overlooked them. But last time they did show some in stock. Maybe I should jump on a set sooner than I planned. Their shipping seems reasonable as well especially compared to some of the rates of other online tire sources.
