56 Radiator Shroud

Is there any difference between a 54/55 and a 56 radiator shroud? I bought one off of a 54 but it does not fit. The shroud fits side to side and looks ok from top to bottom but when I go to put the fan back on it hits the shroud. It hits the fan about 3-5 inches from the tip of the fan. Thanks

i am not sure if there is a difference, but I read somewhere around here that there is two sets of mounting holes. I do know some of the Y-blocks had a different fan mouning and pulley set up than mine. Not sure what years or models.

You might look and see if there is another set of holes and move the shround up or down as needed.

If your running an engine other than the original (example 302,351W or other), the fan shroud may not align up as it did with the original engine. Depending the engine mounts etc. your engine may be sitting slightly higher. I know the radiators were the same, so I'm assuming the shrouds should be also. But no positive.

Talking

I think the I 6 engines had a different shroud? I've had several, and some of them are different. Even considering the different bolt patterns on the radiators. I know I had one cleaned and painted, (it was an extra) I thought I'd put it on the last time I had my radiator out, and it wouldn't fit at all??

I'm interested in what Number Dummy will come up with here. This is his area of expertise.

53, 54, 55 fan shrouds will not work in a 56 with a y block UNLESS you have the original 56 radiator and you are running a high mount fan blade. The 54 and 55 radiators are drilled differently than the 56's. Actually they mount lower than the 56 radiator. Clear as mud I know!

The easy way to identify a 56 shroud is there is a small shield at the bottom that goes toward the radiator.

I need to get pics of both styles as this question come up alot

Well I thank all of you for the help but it looks like I'm up **** creek and all I have is a shroud that don't fit. I am running a 272 Y block and can only assume my radiator is not stock as my shroud will not fit. If anybody needs a 54/55 shroud let me know. Thanks again. Bing

How hard would it be to fabricate some brackets to allow you to mount the shroud you have to your application??

I don't know how it all is supposed to bolt up as I have a 49 truck, but you might be abel to use some flat bar or small angle iron to fab up some brackets fairly easily

Good luck
Bobby
