Im running a Prestige APS-998 which I have connected a Carlink module to. The carlink module gives me a 1-800 number I can call, and activate my alarm, remote start, unlock my doors as well as other features. The carlink works off of satellites, and has an unlimited range. I can be in the woods on my ATV miles from my truck, and all I gotta do is dial the 800 number and start my truck.
I have also used it when I accidently locked my keys in my truck. Just called the number and within 2 minutes, my doors were unlocked! Carlink doesnt have a subscription fee, and it is unlimited uses.
I have a Viper remote start from Best Buy (about $300). I like it a lot. The remote seems to go through batteries a little faster than I would have thought, but it is a 2 way remote (lets you know that you vehicle actually got the signal to start/lock/unlock).
I have the 2 way viper as well and love it. I have installed about 600+ vipers and they are pretty good units.
As for the battery in the remote, try a lithium Ion AAA battery for the remote. They cost more buy last 3-4 times longer than a standard battery, they are alot lighter, and they keep full power until they are dead so your range wont suffer
Tecman--I just got a viper installed on my 2005 6.0; the installer said I needed a DB Tach box to clean up the single from the tach so that it starts the first time, every time. As it is, the truck might start on the first try or go through three attempts without starting. Any thoughts you have on this issue would be appreciated.
hello all... this is my first post that i have gotten around to doing, I searched and tried (Im new to this Blog stuff and dont know my way around) to find my awnser and this is the closest that I have found...I just got an omega remote start for my 05 psd and I am having trouble finding the "wait to start" wire to hook up my glow plug delay... does anyone have any idea whrere it is?? Thanks alot
I have an AstroStart in mine, its what pretty much every body has around here mostly because its the only ones that the dealers will install aftermarket around here. Also a local shop installs them too. Mine is start and unlock/ lock only. I have no need for the alarm part around here a big dog and shot gun work great for that. Mine has the timer delay around 30 seconds for the glow plugs to heat.
