I want to install a remote water pump on my 289 to reduce drag on my crank and make room for an electric fan, cause space is very limited between my pump and rad.
And I have plans in the future to swap in a 600 HP S.B.F. engine.
2 Questions.
What G.P.M. of pump would be sufficient to cool 600HP?
Where could I find the "AN" fittings to bolt onto the engine block, where the stock water pump used to be, that would be large enough to accommodate the pump as well?
50 GPM should do well, you don't need to be able to move the water as much as quickly cool what's in the radiator.
For the fittings, I have never seen an adapter for SBF. You could probably make some block off plates and drill/tap them for a NPT/AN adapter. What I am thinking is flat plates that bolt the water passages, drilled and tapped so they accept an adapter, seal with gaskets and tef-tape.
Your choices seem to be 12 or 16 AN, AN numbers are 16ths of an inch so 16 an is 1" and 12 an is 3/4". Either should do as long as you can attach it to the rad.
