I'm not exactly sure what year my 460 is. On a sticker on the valve cover it says 1974. On the water pump which looks (original?) as it is a Ford piece it has D8VE. Does this make the pump a '78 and the engine it self is a '74. I need to replace the water pump as it is leaking and I'm not sure what year to ask for. Any help would be appreciated. Also is there a difference externally between a truck block and a car block? I would have used the search engine for these questions but it apparently is still down.
Any year should work from 68 to 87 or so. The blocks are the same from truck to car. Just ask for a pump for the year car the engine came from or for a pump for a truck that was originally equiped with a 460 (mid to late 70's 2wd truck)
Thanks Mike. That was the way i was going to go but I didn't want to look like a total jerk at the parts store. The previous owner did alot of wierd things to my truck and as I dig into it I find more all the time. Makes me wonder how he even got it all together.
actually i think all 460 water pumps are the same. i have a 78 block that i got a water pump for(telling the parts guy that it was a 78 lincoln), and when i did my truck, an 89, the same pump was listed. so i think you'll be ok telling him what year your own truck is. good luck man
