I have a 93 f 150 I recently replaced the alternator and it is either faulty or wrong it is a 75 amp w/o ac which is hard to come by they only have the 65 amp, however my worry is this will affect my aftermarket tow package. The 75 amp w/ac is either wrong or faulty, if I put that on my truck does it matter if it has ac or not. According to ford it doesnt matter they dont list their parts by the but the belt routing is different for the ac however the length is the same. Any help would be great thanks.
I would make sure you get an alternator that has at least as many amps as what came from the factory. Check to see if it has an external fan or an internal fan. If it has the internal fan, it is the same one found on my 351. If it is, go to Schucks and get part #N775062, it is an Autolite Protech Platinum alternator like the one I got. It is completely new (NOT remanufactured) and puts out 95 amps. It is a little expensive at $190, but it is not rebuilt and it comes with a lifetime warranty and 24 month roadside assistance.
It is originally what came with it, 75amp external fan, the only thing that doesnt match is the one they gave me which is on it now is for a/c it says, they make a similiar one that is only 65amp w/o ac. According to ford 65 wasnt on this model it was 60 or 75. My concern is that it says w/ac and my truck doesnt have ac. Wondering if that is the problem with this. Because if I go in and say its faulty theyll give me the same one, where if i say its the wrong one I will prolly have to order it and that 75 amp without a/c is harder to get.
Ford also does not acknoledge the difference in ac and w/o ac they say they never heard of that but doesnt know if it will affect the amps. Which is what I am having a problem with right now, it was tested and they said it was faulty(brand new) however this was before the discovery of this whole ac thing
If I read this right, your truck came with a 75 amp. You replaced it with a faulty 75 amp, and they want to give you a 65 amp, instead of another 75...I wouldn't drop to 65, AC or no...in fact If you have an amp in your stereo, or any other power accesories drawing on the system, or pull a trailer (extra lights), I would go up to the 95 amp 1994 F250 mentioned.
But considering it's warranty.. I would suggest you at least stick with the 75.

Do not worry about the A/C thing, as it does not make any difference. The A/C clutch may draw 10 amps but the clutch is the only difference between your heater and A/C.
Putting a the 75 Amp "A/C" alternator on a non-A/C truck will NOT make it go bad.
It you put a larger alternator then stock on your truck then you would have to use larger "B+" wires from the alternator to the starter relay and also a larger fuse link.
thanks for the help guys after putting more time into it and having it tested again it was indeed a brand new faulty motorcraft alternator, heard stories of this but never had it actually happen, didnt drop the new one on yet but hopefully this one isnt faulty cuz I dont wanna have to go through that whole if you have this #on this part please return due to recall thing. Thanks again.
Anytime you buy an alternator make them test the new one before you go out the door or pay for it.
Lots of times they will take back an alternator from someone and restock it and then resell it. But the guy that brought it back caused a defect and now you have it.
Haha I may have to this time put the new one on and amp light on and not doing a thing. Wonder if they can give me a core I'm going somewhere else now I keep looking at those computer test they give you with the new one and wondering how this has happened on 2 of them Im going to napa forget this, thanks guys.
How do you check and see how many amps your alternator puts out? I have a stock one in my F150 but I was under the impression it was a 95amp, but now I'm starting to wonder.

It should be stamped into the case of the alternator.
