i got a 88 f-150 with 302/aod. engine has about 160000 on it and recently started detonating almost anytrime u put ur foot on the gas. timing is set at 10
degrees.its bad , i can barely pull out of my drive way withou it pinging. i tried running 89-or 93, 93 helps a little , 89 doesnt help at all? any tips would be appreciated. oh yeah , it mostly sounds like it is pinging from the passenger side bank, if that possible
Gotta go with Conanski on this one. Sounds like lean mix ping to me. EGR or intake leak somewhere. Could also be the EVAP recovery solenoid valve. Disconnect that line between the two venturis, and plug in a vacuum gauge. Vacuum readings and codes will give you a pretty darn good idea what's wrong. Don't start throwing parts at it until you find out what it's trying to tell you.
