Ok Guys I need some help.
I am building a 460 and I am trying to get about 8.5 Compression. My block is a casting #D1ve and the heads that I have are casting #D3ve A2A. The pistons that I have are Keith Black #38 Which say that with 91cc heads your compression should be around 8.5. The D3ve heads look identical to the D0ve heads that originally came off the engineas far as th combustion chamber is concerned and I dont want to pay to have these heads rebuilt and install them and have to run 91+ octane forever. any info would be greatly appreciated on my confusing question.
Thanks
Bill
The D3 heads are going to be 96-97cc. Did the shop deck your block? There's a formula at the following site that will let you calculate your exact compression ratio:
deck was straight so it did not need to be cut. The guy that i bought the engine from swore that with the D0VE heads it was 10:1 and the later D3VE heads I got at the wrecking yard look the same minus the smog port and the rocker arms. By the way I clicked on the link and it said that it could not be found.
Try this one, click on 'A real SUV' button, and the link is at the bottom of that page:

If they didn't deck your block, you might want to calculate your deck clearance (how far the piston is down in the cylinder at TDC)to be certain it's not so far down (+.04) with aftermarket pistons that it promotes detonation.
DIVE block and DOVE heads with stock flat top pistons should be 10.5:1 c/r.
