Gas Gauge Help

Hi Guys, Getting ready to sell a 77 1/2ton and discovered the gas gauge won't show full. Any tricks to free it up. I suspect the float is stuck. Thanks.

The floats can't stick, but they can fill with gas.

One of the usual reasons the dash gauge reads wrong:

The floats are made from two pieces of copper soldered together.

Solder flakes off, gas seeps in, float slowly settles to the bottom of the tank.

The same float was used on every Ford car & truck from 1957 thru 1979.

Ford (and NAPA, others) still sells them, and the gasket for the sending unit.

C0AZ-9202-B .. Float / C0AF-9276-A .. Sender Unit Gasket

D1AZ-9A011-A .. 3/8" Plastic Mesh Filter Screen - slips over the end of the pickup tube, prolly partially clogged by now.

Thank you Numberdummy. I see you live by your handle namesake. That will save my neighbor a bunch of time. I'll bring a copy to my friends at NAPA. Thanks again.
