Bought a cheap tach for my truck and cant figure out where the wires should go. In the directions it says White wire gos to 12v dash lighting. Where would I find that? Red gos to Switched 12v (fuse box) where at on the fuse box?
Then Black Good chassis ground, then says 12-volt battery (the pic shows it hooked to the battery)
Green shows it going to a coil. Where at on the coil though?
I hooked one up in my truck, the white wire is for the tach light, which you need to taph lights or the fuse for them, the red wire goes to a fuse that has poew when you turn on the key i.e. switched, black can go to any the is a good metal contact., like the dash support, the green goes to the tach lead on the coil, which on my 300 it's a green and yellow wire. I tapped mine off the harness on the fender well, and everything seems to be working....hope this helps.
ok got all the wires hooked up except the Green wire. Should the Green/Yellow wire be on the coil or in the wiring harness? Ive found what looks like 2 green/yellow wires in the harness that splice into 1 then back into 2 wires.(maybe there used to be a tach?)
I hooked up the Green wire to the green/yellow and it doesnt work so im guessing thats the wrong one.
The 2 Yellow/green spliced into 1 then back into 2
Red one on stereo fuse white one on dash light fuse. The other white one on stereo fuse was there when I bought the truck and I dont know what its to. Going to buy some fuse taps in a few hours.
Ground, couldnt find a good place to ground it becasue the wire is so short.
Yeah, darkish-green wire with a yellow stripe is the one. I used the one coming from the harness connected to the coil.
Maybe you aren't getting power, that is, if you are using the correct wire. Try hooking it to + terminal on the battery, and make sure you are using a good ground.
Well got back from the Auto store and they didnt have Fuse taps so I ended up just shoving the wire down into it and putting the fuse over it. Works great!
