Transmission problem???HELP!

Recently i had replaced my flywheel on my 78 f-150. It has 460 motor with c6 tranny. We got the torque convertor bolts to lin up with the flywheel and we got the nub to line up and all the bolt holes were lined up. We had all bolts threaded into the hole, but one side would not thread in. The transmission was like 1/4" gap from motor. After doing this the motor would not turn over by hand? Any suggestions? thanks.

Sounds like the tc isn't in all the way.

Yaeh sounds like the TC drive slots are not completely engaged with the drive "ears" of the tranny. It took me a couple weeks way beack to learn this lesson.

The drive ears need to be centered around the input shaft and the TC slots need to be lined up as good as you can get it. When the alignment is right it just slides right in with no gaps. If there is a gap then the slot and ears are interfering with each other.

Back off a littl and turn the TC just a tiny bit and try again. SHouldn't take too much if you were close when you started.

Depending on the brand and model tranny, sometimes it is easier to mount the converter on the input shaft and then bolt up to the fly plate thru the access hole after you get things ready to snug up.

Good Luck,

Jim Henderson

ok, thanks. I'll pull it back and give it another try. Also, i was wondering: My block casting number is D1VE-6015-A2B. The flywheel i took off had a weight bolted along with the flywheel. On the autozone website it says for block # D1VE-A2B that it doesn't need a weight. b/c it is internally balanced. Should i pull the weight back off the flywheel or ??? I'm not sure if there is a reason it is on there or if someone just didn't do their research. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I would look at the front of the crank inbetween the balancer & the front cover, and see if there is a counter weight in there. If there is then it needs the counter weighted flex plate. This stuff is getting old so who knows what was done in the past.
