i have power at the gp relay
when i turn the ignition key on the relay clicks but no power to the gp
i took each glow plug out and tested it on a battery and they all were bad
none of them got hot but know i was testing them right cause there was a couple old ones in the truck that past that test (got hot fast)
they were autolites which i read were not good stuff but none of them looked burnt and all looked new
no swelling or anything
what would cause them to all be bad????
i just bought this truck so i dont know any history of it
i did order the motorcraft zd9 to put back in but have recieved them yet
but wondering if something else could be wrong before i put the new ones in
thanks

I had the same problem ( it turned out) but I chased it for 3 weeks thinking it was a return line problem. I came home from work and the next mornig it wouldn't start. Cranked it over multiple times but no start. I thought it wasn't getting fuel so I pulled the fuel filter but it had plenty, but once I removed it every time I cranked it over I would recheck the filter and it would loose about half of the fuel. Bypassed the water seperator replaced the fuel pump still no start. I was about to pull the bed, all these trials I found on this forum, but I happened on Dave Spongale description of how to check the Glow plugs and how to bypass the relay. I found all 8 bad, I replaced them with ones for a 91 round top no blade and I put in a manual switch (from Dave Spongale descripiton) and Wow did she fire up. Been driving it for a week now with no other problems. Thanks Dave for the help. I did put in the autolite since they were in for 2 years prior to this and I never had any problems, My choice, I couldn't find the motorcraft for less than $30.00 here in AZ.
flathead
i listen to the guys on here
thats why i didnt put the autolites back in it
cause that little bit extra for them is worth a piece of mind
knowing they wont cause me to have to pull a head off
to get a broken off gp.
dont want to see you on here in the future asking how to get
a broken glow plug out
lol
thanks again guys
