In the past couple of days I have noticed a few drops of oil under my truck and a slight smell of buring oil. When I looked under the hood to day to determine the source, I found a missing part. I am not sure what is supposed to go there?
In addition, the heating and cooling system has been acting funny. When the temp is set all the way hot it starts to blow cool air. If I turn it to cold and then slowly back to warm it starts to blow warm air again.
Here is a picture where the part should be. Its on the plastic on the passenger wheel well by some vacuum lines. It looks like the oil is coming out of the rubber hose that probably should be hooked up to something?
It's the differential vent. It's not supposed to be hooked up to anything it's where it belongs. In the cold if the differential is overfilled a little it will push out fluid.
Thanks, I won't worry too much about it then. This is the first winter that anything has come out of it. Now that you mention it it doesn't really smell like oil either. I'll just keep an eye on the diff fluid level.
