If I'm correct, the stock head bolts on the 6.0 are torque to yield bolts. As a result they would be replaced as normal procedure on any head removal/replacement procedure. Since the head flatness checked out, the HG issue could have been a bad gasket itself, improperly torqued head bolts, stretched head bolts due to over-exuberant use of a tuner, or excess turbo pressure from stuck vanes in the turbo. I'm there are other potential causes but those are the ones that come to mind. Who knows.

However, if it was properly diagnosed and properly repaired then it's probably okay.

Thanks everyone for the input. As an update, I went to look at the '05 mentioned above and found it to be significantly modified. Just as luck would have it though, they had another '05 (F250, 4x4, CC, LB, Lariat, 6.0L diesel) with only 15K miles on it. After some wheel'n & deal'n we finally came to an agreement and I drove it home. I gotta say from first impressions, this thing is awesome! The power difference in the diesel and my old 5.4l gas motor is unbelievable, not to mention the ride and handling difference in the '05 vs. my old '01. I'll miss my '01, but I'm looking forward to alot of good years with this truck. Now I've just got to do alot of reading to learn everything I can about this motor. Thanks again, and I'm sure you all will be seeing me post alot more in this forumn.

No question about it- all things being equal, buy the 05 instead of the 04- not because of the engine, but because the front axle is a much much better set-up. Search the site for additional upgrades from 04 - 05.

also congratulations,, for NOT buying the other 05, heavily modded, pressure in degas could be heads or egr cooler and oil cooler sounds like problems for some poor sob off warranty
