Im new to this thread but am highly involved in off road racing. Where would be the best place to get an 4.9l 300 cu/in inline 6 that i could swap with the one thats in my 1996 F150 with a manual transmission? Or should i just freshen the one i have up? Any comments or suggestions or welcome. If you need or have any offroad questions im full of answers. Im always willing to learn also! thanks
I put a 4.9 crate motor in a pickup for a friend of mine a few years back and it turned out to be a bad decision. Engine had low oil pressure, compression variations between cylinders, and a few leaks we had to fix. That engine never did have much power in spite of everything we did to make it right. I think it was from a company called Roadrunner Engines. In hind sight we would have rebuilt the one he had, the cost would have been about the same. Just make sure you get it from a reputable builder if you go that route.
