My wife's 2000 Exped is having a problem with the heater. On really cold days it barely blows any warm air. After doing some searching on this forum, I found it could be any of three things; broken blend door, bad blend actuator or blocked heater core. Correct? Anything else I should consider?
Well, I'm trying to rule out the blend door and actuator, because when I turn the **** to cool, cold air starts blowing out, so that makes me think that the actuator and door are working. However, I do hear a "thump" sound when I turn it all the way to hot. Is that normal and I just never noticed it before, or is that an indicator of a broken blend door (that may not be closing all the way)? How can I tell if it's the heater core? I don't smell antifreeze that I've read indicates a leaky core. Could it be blocked? If so, is that something I can flush out myself?
Does the temp. control feel like it is rotating smoothly when you turn it. I have seen the **** crack where it goes on the shaft and it exibits that behavior. That is the first place to check as it is much cheaper and easier than a blend door. They just pull off and it is easy to see if it is split.
I have the same problem with a 99 Expedition. Mechanic checked it out ,Thermostat replaced, Water pump replaced, Blend door OK. Pinch off back heater hose and front works. Talked with Ford Mech and he suggested possibly the Radiator cap might not be holding pressure. I'm not holding my breath on that one but it's a pain
My heater problem differs from the others that I've read in that It will blow cold in the winter and hot in the summer. It is only the front, rear works just fine.Is it still the blend door or something else? Thanks.
