Has anyone figured out how to rebuild their Ford hub bearings? Mine is a 2000 4x4 S/D Diesel.
I've replaced both a couple of times now and wonder how difficult could it be?? I know the bearing number is a Timken 5800 so surely we could go from there...
Anyway, I'm looking for a new set again so does anyone have any good advise? Autozone wants $300.00 each... They're on drugs !!!
Wow!!! I'm going through the exact same thing right now. I searched online and have a couple of hubs coming from autopartswarehouse.com for $253 each and no shipping charges. I asked if they had seals but they don't. I'm getting those from the dealer. OUCH.
My next step is to get directions to do this myself. So how about it? Tips, tricks and instructions much appreciated.
Doing the install is a snap.. It takes me 30 minutes a wheel. I simply remove the wheel and then the two large bolts that hold the WHOLE brake unit on. Slide the rotor off. Use some pliars to remove the retaining ring on the manual hub and then it just slides out. There are about three washers in behind that and they slide out. Then remove the 4 nuts from the back side of the housing. I crank my wheel hard right and left to access those nuts easier. After that, it all slides out. Replace in reverse order and your're done.. not a lot to it. The painful part is the 300 bucks for the damn things. What SEAL are you talking about on yours?
Make sure you put the washers back in the same order, i read somewhere that that is very important. or get the dynatrac fixed spindle set up. I did and no hasle for 3 years now on 37's and love 4 wheeling the truck. $0.02
For now, I'm going with the stock setup. I think the Dynatrac setup is in my future. Their site says 6-7 weeks delay. The $1900 price tag has something to do with it too.
Hub Bearings - I just found some online (Ebay) brand new units for around 140.00 each.. How in the hell are they selling new LIFETIME guarantee that cheap? China made Im sure but does anyone know how they're holding up?
those 140.00 eBay specials are probably the ones I returned to my local parts store. I can't believe they are very good quality for 140.00, and are they going to be around to honor the warranty? and Jim get the studs I couldn't get the ones out of my old hub
