Stalling and Idle Issue
A couple of questions about my 88 F150. (5.8, C6, 4X4 with AC) The truck starts and idles well, (1500 or so on cold start) but it idles a little bit high (1100) most of the time. When the truck warms up, the idle sometimes drops to about 750, where I think it should be and then works its way back to 1100. The truck idles well at all rpms.
However, I think the truck should be idling at 750 all the time when its warmed up and the AC is off. Also, the truck has taken to either almost stalling or stalling when it attempts to idle from 1100 to 750. However, when it hits 750, it idles fine, until it decides to go back to 1100 again (with a good idle, just too fast).
Do these trucks have a temperature sensor for the engine computer in addition to the coolant gauge? If so, I guess I should check this with my scanner? It will display the engine temperature (or what the computer thinks it is).
Any ideas about this? Just so everyone knows, there's no check engine light on. Any thoughts on why the occasional stall or the frequent almost stall to low idle?
Thanks in advance!
