I want to use a bellhousing off a 86 f-250 that had a factory 460 in it in my 1979 f-150. I will be using engine, flywheel, clutch out of that same 86 f-250.Can i use my manual clutch linkage on my 79 with this bellhousing? it looks like i could cut ears for slave cylinder off the bellhousing and just use my manual linkage.Has anyone ever done this?thanks
I am quesing from what youve said that you ar gonna put a 5 speed in the 79. I have done both ways, and going hydraulic by adding the clutch master cyliner is the easiest and works great. All you have to do is mod a rod on the clutch pedal that to the slave(it can be mounted in a pretty small area and doesnt take a lot of travel in the rod to work the clutch. If you must go manual, messure your old lever(how far its out of the housing0 compare that to your hyd set up. Any shorter than the manual and it will be harder to push, and travel will be less. IE if the clutch fork on the 5spd is say 1 inch shorter, the pedal will be harder to push, and if the pedal traveled 2 inches to work the original clutch it may go down to 2 inches, making the pedal real touchy. If the hyd is longer, it will push easy but you wont have enough travel in the pedal to work the clutch. Like I said i went hyd it was easier by far. All you need is 1 7/8 inches of travel to the master, i drilled a hoel in the clutch pedal and attached the late model rod to it and mounted the master cylinder to the firewall. Did have to cut and weld an extention with some adjustment in the rod, but everything else was simple.
