This is a follow-up to an earlier thread I posted, after reading much more I wanted the title to more reflect my problem.
I have been advised to check the valve cover wiring harness since the pop test didn't show any problems.
There is one more thing to add I have a SES light 100% of the time with the exception of extremely cold mornings. I had to leave in more of a hurry the other morning and did not have the ses light. i let the truck warm up some, (it was running good) but did not get to the normal op temp. before the normal op temp 1 1/2 miles the truck ran like a bandit. no ses light, watching the temp guage after it raised to the normal level the light immediately came on and poor performance again (skipping) does this symptom mean anything???
The light just means you have a stored code in the computer. Did you ohm the wires for resistance? It sounds like the other guys have steered you in the right direction. With a 1316 I'd check for a loose plug, chaffing wires, or both on the UVCH.
thanks, I have not been able to unhook the truck long enough to check in to that, I was just wondering if the absence of the codes and great cold performance would narrow further. as soon as the light and code trip I lose 30% of power and economy
I will post my findings and new problems or conclusion in this thread.
Thank you everyone that takes the time to educate us on caring for our trucks.
Yep, you need to pull both valve covers (gaskets are reusable) and check for the 9 pin connector being loose.. Also inspect for rubbing on the wires by push rods, etc.. See my gallery pic's for loose connector and a my home-made shim to fix it.. My problem of a loose connector was temperature sensitive, meaning the problem would come and go depending on the temperature of the engine..
But before you start pulling covers, check the main big wire harness that goes over the top of the driver's side valve cover. Read alot of posts where there is rubbing of insulation of the wires on the cover, causing shorts..
