I have a 79 f150 4wd shortbed. I put a 460 in the truck. it has a 4spd and 6 inches of lift. I replaced the p/s pump, gearbox and all the lines.if i start the truck and then shut it off it blows fluid out the cap.[ alot of fluid ].it appears to have air in it. i cannot get it bled out. anyone else have this problem?
One way to get the air out is to unhook the coil wire and turn the engine over while turning the wheel from lock to lock. Worked on my fathers 91 F-250 that I replace everything on last weekend.
did you do this with the frontend jacked up off the ground or with the weight on the ground. i tried it with the frontend jacked up and the truck running turning the wheel lock to lock. i will try it without the truck running
I done it without it jacked up but it might be better if it is jacked up cuz she was hard to turn.Be sure to unhook it from the coil and not the distributor. I turned it from lock to lock once. Checked and filled the pump. Went lock to lock again. Checked again. When Lock to Lock and the third time it was still full. Hope it helps!
i do it running. turn the wheel lock to lock a couple times and check/ refill. pressure is built and fluid escapes when the engine is off, i have never seen a ford not lose fluid that way.

i tried it this way and it seemed to work at first. when u cut off the truck it blows alot of fluid out of the cap. i have owned many ford trucks and never had one blow this much fluid out. the fluid is very frothy which is a sure sign of air
