99 SD with a powerstroke. Getting a very noticable vibration between 40-50, but only in overdrive. Take it out of OD, vibration disappears. Doesn't seem to be RPM dependant as it never shows up out of OD. Anyone have this symptom before?
I had mine at dealer for two weeks for a vibration at 58 to 62 mph..They couldn't fix it..300 dollars to tell me that...Now its been at another dealer for a week they have ten hours and 3 ujoints in it so far and now want to have the driveshaft balanced..So i am up to 800 right now at this dealer thats without balancing or retubing the driveshaft..Mechanic says he put a hose clamp and weights on shaft and got some it to go away..I was gonna trade it off but it does it from 45 to 75 now..and it shakes like hell...Like driving over rumble strips..I thought it only did it in od but if i put in into 3rd (its's a 2005 cc psd 4x4 by the way) over the rumble of the exhaust and loud motor i could feel it a litlle i just believe it was more noticeable because od is smoother..So good luck all the delaer says the can do is inspect replace and narrow it down..I would check ujoints first on mine the had to be pressed out.. Then tyr the hose clamp move it around to try and change the vibe..Good Luck Man
I've had this problem that you all speak of on my 99' super duty w/ a PSD. The only solution I found was a new COMPLETE driveshaft from ford! Mine would only vibrate Between 62-75MPH in o.d., and while on the throttle. I tried replacing u-joints, and having it rebalanced- it was actually twisted, but unnoticable to the naked EYE. TOO MUCH TORQUE!- I guess? Any way, spent the cash on a new one and has not happened again.
I told them to swap one out of another truck into it and see if that fixes it..I'll ask about it being twisted and see if they will check that before balancing it..How much does a new one run is it under 500.Thanks for that suggestion Camrod
