Electrical system won't quit

I have a problem with my '97 F-150SC 4x4. At noon today the engine was slow to turn over and the windows and wipers wouldn't work. I checked all fuses and found no problems. For no reason, they began working. This evening, the interior lights were intermittantly flashing on and off. I had to jump start it. When driving, the airbag light and 4x4 light began blinking. After shutting the engine off, and removing the key, the heater fan continued to run and there was a buzzing near the computer on the passenger side. I just unhooked the battery cable to stop it. If I need to take it to the shop, I would like an idea as to what the problem may be as the dealership here is not trustworthy. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

MFH

Electrical system won't quit

The original battery went bad on mine after two years or so. After the no-start condition, it went completely crazy, buzzing, relays clacking, even after switching it to OFF and pulling out the key. I had to pull the negative cable to stop it. Then I reconnected it and jumped it. Then revved it for 5 minutes to charge what was left of the battery. It was then a easy warranty replacement. And the dealer actually replaced the battery without goofing up or scraping anything else up! Amazing!
The reason I think it went crazy with the key out is I have the factory alarm on it. I think the alarm system loses its sanity at extremely low battery voltages, and tries to start flashing the alarm stuff.
