Anyone out there tow a heavy trailer with a lift??? i'm planning on lifting my 2007 f250 4x4 and was not sure which way to with blocks or leafs. i'm planning on getting a air spring kit and just wondering what would be better blocks and shorter air springs or leafs 4 inch lift and longer air springs, do i need a tank for the air springs and are those automatic leveling systems anygood?? i'm gonna be towing a 13,000lbs fithwheel thanks Tom
Depending on the 5th wheel, you may have clearance problems between the bedrails and the underside of the trailer, if you lift your truck too high. For the best handling, the trailer needs to tow level fore and aft.
Depending on the amount of lift (and tire size)you may be able to level the trailer by lifting it also. Then you have center of gravity problems with both vehicles.
As far as springs versus blocks go, blocks keep your factory spring rates. Normally on a spring only lift, the spring rates are softer than factory, so the air bags will have to hold a lot more than if you went with blocks.
I tow a 14k fifthwheel (2600# of pin weight). I removed the 4" blocks and the leaf spring overloads from the rear and put in the 2" F250 blocks and air bags. I still had to lift the trailer 1 1/2" to get the trailer level. The air bags make towing very nice and keep my head lights aimed correctly.
