Exclamation need opion and help

ok i just bought my 98 f-150, i really didn't pay much attention to the
following when i bought it so i don't if this problem exsisted when i bought
it or not. ok here is the problem, when i turn on the ignition, the following
lights do not light up on test, check engine, abs, emergency brack (which
also doesn't work when i apply my emergency brake)and door ajar(which
also doensn't work when i open the door with ignition on)
i have not started to take the dash out yet because of the fear
on the headlight switch, what are the chance's that all of these bulbs
are blown, and if they are not what else should i look for if and
when i decide to tackel this myself, or should i just take it to the
shop?, since my check engine light is not working i'm going to take
it to autozone to check for codes before i do anything, 1 more thing
if i disconnect the neg.battery post then reconnect it would that
possiblely pake these lights start working without getting into
taking the dash apart. thanks for any advise

David

The first thing to check is the fuses. I had that happen once.
The other thing is try to switch the headlights on/off and use the high/low beam switch a few times. My 1998 F150 would occasionally get the lights off if the high/low wasn't just right.

Sounds like to me on the issue of your emergency brake not working is the cable is not hooked up and the sensor is not working to light it up on the dash without the cable being hooked up.

My guess is you have blown bulbs, get a few c2az13466c (194) and d4az13466a (37) bulbs and cross your fingers that none of the blown bulbs are the -13b765- which would be Ford only. As far as changing them it's not hard but time consuming. As far as the headlight switch I'm thinking your 98 will come off the same way as my 97.
Disconnect the battery, turn the switch to the on position and pull on the ****. On the stem of the **** will be a small opening that you'll need to insert a screwdriver or punch into in order to remove the **** from the switch. Once you have the **** off turn it 180% and put it back on the shaft, turn the **** counter clockwise until the back of the **** is at the off position, then turn the **** clockwise fully and the switch assembly should pop out toward you. Remove the electrical connector(s) and you'll see a screw or two that will need to be removed. Lower the (if you have tilt) steering column and the plastic trim can be removed some screws and some tabs , pull it toward you, about ten more screws total for the lens ,trim and cluster and the cluster will come out. Be careful about the "prndl" odds are it will have two tabs one per side that will need to be released in order to remove it from the cluster. That will allow you enough room to pull the cluster forward with the electrical connectors still attached so you can move/swap bulbs to verify concern (battery must be reattached for that of course).
Take your time it's easier than you think. Good luck.

ok,thanks, i had the codes checked today, there where
no codes stored, so i'm hoping it's the bulbs
i would like them all to work as they are suppose to
but my biggy is to have at least the check engine light to
work, i don't guess there would be anything ekse that would stop
that from working
