Does it only die at idle or does it die going down the road as well. Anything else you can tell us about the truck. When was the last fuel filter change? And it maybe the CPS have you replaced it or gone in for the recall?
Yes there is. I can't believe you have a '99 and still have the original CPS in there. Does it die at every stop or just sometimes? Does it ever die going down the road at throttle?
Joe
I'm with JOE-M on this one. It sounds like your torque converter is sticking. Try putting it into neutral right before you stop and see if it continues to run. If so, start making plans to get the torque converter replaced. Common problem from what I've read here on FTE.
it dies once in a while only when i brake never when its going down the road it happens once every month or so not all the time
Being that infrequent, I am leaning towrd CPS. If you still have a bloack CPS in the engine take your truck to a dealer and they will check it for recall status (IOW they will look to see if it is a balck CPS) and then change it out with a new gray one.
lets start with the free easy stuff first, then if the symptoms come back we can look at the TC, or other causes.
If your interested you can go to the very top of the page and select the recalls/tsb button and see any recalls related to your truck. Click on the one your interested in and it should give you the info.
went to the dealer today and found out i had 2 recalls on my rig 1.cps 2.fuel system anyone else had fuel system recall what parts are replaced??
The fuel system recall is probably the fuel tank recall that most people never did. I had mine done and IIRC in didn't take long and all they did is install or replace some straps that holds the fuel tank under the truck. Someone somewhere and sometime must of had an accident where the fuel tank came out and cause a fire.
When your truck dies, does it just shut off or sputter to a death? The TC not unlocking would feel like you stopped a strait drive without depressing the clutch. Any check engine lights?
