Just wondering if one of those "De-Scalers" would be worth checking into? I've found several for sale...The ones with the needles and it's air powered?
Thanks for the information so far. We're hopeful to get some more work in on the beast soon. (gonna be a riot pulling the bed off and seeing how much 'fun' we have in store LOL)
The scalers you refer to were originally used by welders to remove slag. They do work on rust too, but make sure you get the small needles (fingers). There are 2 sizes used in welding, the smaller one is the most common. Just need to be aware of the fact there are 2 different ones, and they are replaceable.
The scaler works best if you are dealing with rust that is in groves, cracks and corners were you can't get a grinder too. They work great for remove any kind of loose stuff, so then use a chemical rust remover to finish it up.
The needle guns you describe will remove rust, but will also leave your metal with that hammered look. Don't use them on something that you have an aversion to getting miniscule hammer marks on.
